Holistic Health and true choice

I have been hesitant in writing this post.
There is so much aggression and misinformation out there at the moment regarding the efficiency of immunisation via vaccines that I have felt the need to remove myself from potential conflict. But my whole Being is on high alert, my energy is just fizzing with the need to speak out for those who might not be able to voice their concerns.

In Australia last week, a legislation was passed which impacts upon many medium to low income earners, taking away their concessions and financial assistance for child-care and family expenses; that they are entitled to as tax payers, because of their child's immunisation status. What is also confronting about this is that the immunisation status is directly aimed at getting vaccination rates higher than what they are now, however the legislation parameter means that anyone outside of the financial bracket is not affected. So this legislation is levelled squarely at the people who will be detrimentally affected by financial strain. It seems unfair, but also income-prejudiced against some of the most needy in our community.

Two things come to mind immediately in response to this legislation.
1. This legislation is a direct and aggressive government decreed action that dismisses basic human rights.
2.  Medical choice has been removed in favour of financial blackmail.

This is very, very worrying for us as a democracy. That the immunisation 'register' is now being upped to include everyone up to the age of 20 is also of concern, as the legislation will impact upon adults and their choices too. I forsee that healthcare workers, teachers and anyone else in the institutionalised careers will be forced into compulsory vaccination to keep their job in the near future if this legislation is not overturned via appeal.

Vaccination is a deeply personal choice because it is a medical intervention that poses serious physical risk, and carries important philosophical decisions within it. Personally, I have an issue having anything cultured on another animal species' biological material injected into my or my children's bloodstream. I feel it will be generations in the future that will allow us to view the real consequences of the experiment of vaccines (if not the generation that I belong to who had no real choice and were bombarded with propaganda and without access to the vital information we have now). I was a child injured by vaccination, and my mother was dismissed by her doctor when she brought me back for treatment for the reactions. I never received treatment, and went through a childhood affected by vaccination damage. So yes, this is a very personal topic for me.

The heavy metals used as preservatives, and the kinds of adjuvants used in vaccines are also concerning to a lot of informed-choice parents.  We do not have a clear 'scientific' picture of what vaccines are doing to a majority of people, other than the myriad of testimonials from parents who choose not to continue with vaccination because of the destructive changes they see in their children post-vaccination. We have a lot of people who seem to be summarily unaffected by vaccinations too.

If we think that vaccination can eliminate viral infections then we are believing in an unattainable reality. Viruses are part of our environment. They mutate into new and untreatable strains. This is scientific fact. If you want to live in a world without the danger of viral infection then becoming part of a space station program is probably something you need to aim for...

My choice to take responsibility for my health (and that of my children) is exactly that...my choice. As is it is anyone else's choice to look at the vaccine ingredient list, and manufacturing methods, and marketing methods, and have the choice to weigh up the risks as they see them, and make their choice. I would not seek to impinge upon their desired action.

As you may see, I list no 'links' to verified peer-reviewed articles on the dangers or risks of vaccines. There are heaps out there. There are many articles in favour of vaccines too. I feel it is redundant to continue in that 'tit-for-tat' exercise. The real message is that science is finding much in the way 'for' and 'against' this issue at large. (whether it is for vaccination or against vaccination)

In finalising this post I give you my personal experience. This is what influenced my decision to find other avenues for maintaining health and obtaining immunisation for me and my children...

In 2004 my daughter was eligible to attend pre-school. She had been immunised during her life and we had encountered the usual childhood illnesses regardless of her vaccinations. My gut feeling was to not have her vaccinated again, but the pre-school needed a 'conscientious objector' form signed unless she was able to produce her vaccination schedule up to date. At the time we had no family doctor and I felt intimidated going to any mainstream doctor to talk about my lack of confidence in vaccines. A long story short, we had her vaccinated, enrolled, and dealt with the issues that arose. Her little brother had been present with us at the doctor's surgery when we took her for her shots, and the staff there pressured us relentlessly to have him done too, even though he had only just got over a cold and we were asking for them to leave it for a while. I remember literally being bullied into having his vaccinations done. At the time I just wasn't informed enough to stand up to the scare-mongering tactics the doctors and nurses use. I crumpled. My husband was just bewildered with my reactions and the information he was being bombarded with. Both children received vaccinations...my little boy was around 18months old. He changed irrefutably after that.
I called the year that followed 'the year of snot'. My children were ill about once a month for at least two weeks each month with respiratory sicknesses, stomach bugs and digestive problems. My little boy developed allergies to foods, his behaviour took a dive in both progress and ability.

I began to read. I began to look for answers. I began to educate myself.
And, no...I didn't use the internet. The first person I spoke to about all of this was a PhD Research Fellow at The University of Queensland who was collating information about toxicity levels in our children. Part of that was looking at vaccinations and toxic ingredients. The information she collated became part of her book 'Chemical Free Kids', which gave an informed and level argument for vaccination research to be continued and vaccine manufacture to be made safer.

What got my attention was the table of ingredients for each vaccine. The fact that they are cultured using pig, horse, monkey, chicken and cow biological material. Parts of DNA, particles from other species used to make our vaccines that we shove into the blood of our babies. My brain did a complete "WTF???!!!" reaction. I think I read those pages about four or five times to make sure of what I was reading. But it was true. Then the 'real' research began. I delved into pediatric peer reviewed journals. I read a mountain of 'for an against'. I got disgusted and appalled by the aggression and misinformation that comes through from the companies who are making these vaccines. I was depressed and disappointed that scientific procedure is NOT followed for vaccines as they are for other medicines. How can this be allowed? Simple...there IS an agenda, and it IS corporate funded. Money rules the roost at present and woe to anyone who sees it differently.

Anyway. 10 years or more on and my children do not receive vaccines. They have had robust good health, going through the usual phase each year of having one or two bouts of flu or cold, and getting over them with natural remedies, care and attention. As a Holistic Practitioner, I believe that it is not just one thing that makes us sick or healthy, but a rounded approach, utilising a collection of lifestyle choices for health and wellbeing that ensure...well, ... 'health and wellbeing'. And it is also a collection of things that make use sick too.

We shall see what becomes of this latest legislation. I sincerely hope it is overturned. I sincerely hope that something happens to the way these big companies 'sell' their vaccines.

Wishing you and your family the freedom to choose what is best for you.
In Peace and Good Health

May 2013 Flying Stars Forecast

May 2013 Annual and Monthly Influences with Bagua sectors :)
Everyone take a big deep breath...and now let it out slowly...'ahhhhh'. Ah doesn't Star 8 in the Centre Palace feel good ;). If you've a home with an open plan layout, this month will feel a whole lot calmer, and hopefully a whole lot 'quieter' in terms of change or discomfort. Star 8 is the energy of 'stopping and resting', an Earth energy that is The Mountain. So sit a while...soak up some stability of good earthy vibes and appreciate the solidity that comes from quiet contemplation.

From the AIG 2013 -
Summary: The Wealth Star moves into the Centre bringing with it the Opportunity for wealth gains of all kinds. You'll find benefits from Contemplation about any of these opportunities and Speech will be needed to actually get things to fruition. Clarity arrives regarding Help you may have been requesting, and how to approach how you'll present yourself. Creative Expression is easy this month as the chatty Annual Star 7 is moved to support and nourish Expression and Ideas in the Creative sector. This can be so beautifully combined with your Career or Life Purpose as the Passion Star 4 is being nourished by Wisdom. There may be tension with the Family structure with control being exerted upon a 'new way of doing things'. Be prepared for compromise regarding Relationships as Communication will be dreadfully strained due to the 5,2 combo which makes for 'difficult receiving'.
 Alerts -
SW: Input Metal element of all kinds (or boost what you have in place for the Annual Star 2) Keep it quiet, tidy up, repair, maintain with High Qlality Qi Flow helpers eg: Incense, Atmospheric sprays etc.
East: Potential injuries to feet, or, sore throats, chest infections illnesses of the respiratory tract. Practical steps using 'heating' foods like garlic, chiilli, onioin, ginger...to help simulate the immune system. Implement Fire element.
SE: Potential for despondency relating to Abundance issues. Use Water element to subdue the Star 7 this month and boost your Star 4 Passions.
Our Winter weather is coming on now with cool cool nights and fairy chilly mornings. Slippers are a must for tiled floors and we're all enjoying that warm drink in the morning, a lot. This is also a time to integrate more warming foods into your diet each week. Ginger, Chilli, Garlic, Turmeric...oh it can only mean one thing for me...a 'one-pot' Indian curry of some description slow cooking for an afternoon. I cook a curry most weeks from scratch, enjoying the meditation of preparation, the combining of these marvelous herbs and roots, powders and oils, that end up in the most deliciously mouth-watering creation with only an hour under the lid, on the very gentlest of heat. My fave? Coconut milk curry with Turmeric and Vegetables. I usually use potato, onion, a selection of any veg I have in the crisper, plus a heap of chick peas and lentils thrown in too. Adding the rice in before the coconut milk and coating it with the oily herbs and spices makes for a great 'briani' style meal. Anyway...that's another post in the 'Recipes' label ;) This sort of food is satisfying, gently cooked in its own juices to avoid losing any nutritional value, and packed full of Ayurvedic helpers! Just what we need for Winter food here in SE Qld.

With Star 2 in the SW visited by the Monthly Star 5 we may see some digestive system problems arise. Fortifying with wholesome foods that help the digestive system cleanse and regulate will be advised. Garlic and Onion are excellent 'prebiotics' helping the absorption of food in the intestinal tract and, with the benefit of being powerful anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial agents. Still, Salt Water Cure into bedrooms and workspaces, as too with the Wealth Bringer Bowl outside in the SW for the Star 5.

Connections in Relationships can be strained this month with the manifestation that someone you are close to is 'just making you sick' or you may hear it said 'I can't stand to be around [insert name here], they make me sick'.THIS is a massive 'tell' that you are being negatively affected by Star 2 in the SW. Clear up, clean up, love up and see the change occur for the better.

Blessings for a super start to Winter and a Beautiful May wherever you are ;)

Cholesterol and Heart Health - what you may not know about it...

I had a conversation at a supermarket outside the milk fridge about why I was buying the organic unhomogenised milk. It started something like this:

Middle Aged Man (MAM): "Is that organic milk really any good? It's pretty expensive..."
Me: "I buy this for my husband because he's diagnosed with high cholesterol and can't have the homogenised milk..." I shrug, "really he shouldn't be drinking this milk either, but its better than anything else on these shelves here."
MAM: "Oh...why's that? are you *all afraid of the chemicals man*" he grinned.
Me: "Well yeah, but its more than that...did you know that all of this milk is 'cooked' therefore all the fat molecules are mutated already?"

He looks at me blankly, and frankly, I was thinking that I'd began a conversation that should maybe not have gotten started...but regardless, I went on...
"Pasteurisation is when they cook the milk to a certain temperature to 'kill' all the 'bacteria' in it. Then they homogenise it so that it has a uniform creamy consistency. Homogenisation makes the fat molecules tiny so that they are suspended in the liquid, and so small that they can permeate the stomach lining and make it directly into the bloodstream,...which isn't good for anyone, but doubly not good for someone who has high cholesterol diagnosed."

MAM: "Really? why then does everyone drinking it not have high cholesterol?"
Me: "Actually, cholesterol is a current epidemic in mainstream western society because of the milk products being manufactured this way. Cholesterol issues like we have are not even known about in cultures without this method of food manufacturing"
MAM: "But cholesterol is a inherited thing...isn't it?"
Me: "Mmmmmmmm well, ... its kinda like a inherited pre-disposition to forming the condition....know what I mean? If you're parents had high cholesterol then you many also form this condition if you follow the same kind of lifestyle and diet choices they did...and most likely you do, yes?"
MAM: "Yep"
Me: "...um, do you have high cholesterol?"
MAM: "Yep!" and he sucks air through his teeth, as people do when they are wanting to 'chew on a topic'...
With this subtle 'tell' of body language I go ahead with...
"Cholesterol is actually your body's way of protecting your blood vessels...did you ever get told that?"
MAM: "No. I've always been told that cholesterol is bad"
Me: "Ah, well, that's not correct. Cholesterol forms in response to rancid fats, those cooked dairy fats for one, entering our blood stream and causing tears and cracks and general damage to the vessel walls. Cholesterol is like plaster on a cracked wall...its put there to make the surface smooth again. Cholesterol is the body's way of repairing the inside of our blood vessel walls...when it goes into overdrive, because our diet is shoving all this rancid, damage causing, fat into our blood, we get too much cholesterol forming and then we get blockages because damage is being repaired on top of damage already repaired..."

By this time the guy is really confused or worried or both. He's frowning and has his mouth open breathing quietly with a slightly shocked cast to his face. I'm not sure if I've upset him badly or if I'm producing an 'Ah hah' moment...so I smile and nicely say I've got to get on with the rest of the shop...but he stops me with one last question...

MAM: "So my cholesterol tablets are helping me to get rid of the stuff in my blood that is actually trying to help me heal up?"
Me: "Yup....but you've got to understand that the only way to stop the body over producing cholesterol is to stop putting in the rancid oils and fats that are causing the damage...its that old 'cause and effect' thing, you know? Gotta get going now..."

MAM: "Oh sure, not a problem. Thanks for the info eh?"
Me: "You're welcome" I say with another smile and walk away, leaving him staring at the fridges full of 'cut price', 'discounted', 'budget' milk products...He looks completely bemused.

If you are on cholesterol tablets and your doctor hasn't explained why you're on them and how they work, go and ask for a detailed breakdown of what you can do to reduce your cholesterol without taking statin drugs. These are a 'mass medication' kind of drug and do not take into account your personal cholesterol pre-disposition, or your personal metabolic condition. Statin drugs are also muscle wasting, which means you may have the side effect of cramps and muscle spasms...which is kinda disconcerting when you consider they are 'heart medication'...and the Heart is a pretty important organ made of... muscle...

To get great Heart Health:
  • Remove dairy from your diet (including goat, sheep and other mass produced mammal milks) unless of course you consume the milk raw and fresh from the animal, and you know it is being treated with respect and being farmed without the use of pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics or other toxins.
  • Remove meat from your diet as this contains animal fats that are going rancid.
  • Remove fried foods not cooked in either coconut oil or ghee, as all other fats are rancid by the time they are cooked.
  • Look into supplement therapy like B1 (Niacin), Rice Bran, Vitamin E (Tochopherols).
  • Add a high potency antioxidant to your daily intake. Something like Berry Radical would be excellent.
  • Research using Herbal treatments like Hawthorn Berry Extract or Red Rice Yeast.
  • Make Spirulina and Chlorella a part of your diet every day.
  • Eat fresh and organically grown Garlic, Ginger, Chilli, and Turmeric, plus heaps of green leafy foods. If you're not a big green food eater you might consider taking a green food powder each day. Deep Greens covers both green foods and Spirulina and Chlorella too!
  • Research for yourself any food based therapy that specifically targets lowering the 'bad' cholesterol in your body. Do not leave it up to your GP or Cardio specialist to give you this information. Its most likely that they don't even know what you've read here. They are trained to use pharmaceutical medicine, not food, so its safe to assume they would not know what foods and food habits help Heart Health...
  • Bach Flower Remedies of Holly, Vine, Beech and Star of Bethlehem may be VERY beneficial for anyone with Heart issues of all kinds. These do not interact with any medications so are very safe for anyone 'beginning' a new way of living, and help to promote healing on all levels.
  • Exercise gently every day. Use upper body exercises to gain great blood circulation around the heart.
  • LOVE more things and avoid hatred or anger. Process and grow! Progression towards peace and harmony promotes Longevity.

Blessings for Great Health

Some very good advice..

This just popped into my inbox this morning and I thought that it was 'advice gold' to be shared :)

"It’s virtually pointless to embark on any health and wellness program until you have flushed all the accumulated, impacted debris and poisonous residues from your digestive tract.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) in collaboration with Mt. Sinai School of Medicine did a study that found over 249 chemicals in the blood and urine of 9 random human volunteers. These people did not work with chemicals on the job or live near an industrial facility.  Of all the chemicals found:
  •   76 were known to cause cancer in humans or animals
  •   94 are toxic to the brain and nervous system
  •   79 caused birth defects
The Center for Disease Control studies human toxin levels and has found measurable amounts of more than 100 toxic chemicals (man made “exo-toxins”) in blood and urine of the general public.
Toxins from the environment include:
  •     Food additives and preservatives
  •      Household cleaning products
  •     Personal care products
  •     Pesticides
  •     Home furnishings
  •      Clothing
  •     Hobbies: arts/crafts, model building, automotive
  •     Drinking water with chlorine/ fluoride (aluminum)"
The article goes on to introduce Don's 'Pulse' program all about their fabulous dietary cleansing mix, and the retreat you can take to learn about more raw foods etc. All very good info. (http://www.dontolmaninternational.com/)

When I began my personal detox I used simple approaches like going more raw, reducing processed foods and intaking HEAPS more pure water. I also chose to take Chlorella and Spirulina as they take heavy metal poisons out of the body tissue (even the brain tissue) because I had suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, chronic Migraines (which began to morph into small seizures) and a host of other 'toxicity related' symptoms. Simply by taking those two superfoods in tablet form, and making those other small changes to my diet, I found the symptoms just 'dropping away'. No medication needed.

I encourage you to use simple, plant and food based solutions for nutrition and detoxification. The simplest way to start is using the Vitalilty 3 Pack from Miessence. Food and superfood powders, one with high powered Probiotics, all are wonderful antioxidants, and, they are made using Certified Organic Ingredients. No nasties 'lurking' around for your bod to deal with . Just pure nutrition. Nice!

Tuning into Love 030 - Holistic Therapies WORK! *for* you

A stressful few days have just passed. My father has been hospitalised after weeks of immobility and underwent surgery last night. The evening before he was in Emergency, and my son was battling a night of a particularly severe hayfever attack. Last night as my thoughts were with my Dad having a double operation, my youngest daughter began to purge...all night. So that's two nights of no sleep.

How am I getting through this?

Firstly I know its because I have good support, and that I know when to stop, take a moment to contemplate, and retrieve a semblance of perspective to re-align and move back to a balance point. Without this 'learned behaviour' I don't think I'd have such clarity right now.

The other things are:
Bach Flowers Rescue Remedy (as often as I could, whenever, wherever)
Calm Me Aromatherapy Blend (on the wrists and temple pulse points....bliss)
Deep Green alkaliser and In-Liven superfood probiotic (stress heavily depletes the body of vital nutrients and an appetite too...these have been my 'food' for the last few days)
Meditation
Barefoot walking on the grass
Hugging my children and my partner

There's been moments of overwhelm, the tears have flowed and the Mind has traveled to places that aren't pleasant, but I've come back. I trust that we 'know' when things aren't right, and through all of this turmoil I know that I'm doing all the right things, that I am Divinely Loved and that all I need do is ask for assistance and it is given. So I've asked, and thanked, and loved and adored my Divine guides and helpers and all things are working out Perfectly.

My dear ol' Dad a few months ago with my youngest daughter...trustingly asleep in strong arms :)
My son is responding to all the natural remedy treatments we are currently 'doing', and is blissfully sleeping through his immune system strengthening. He'll take a few days to kick this but I know he'll conquer it. My daughter woke up this morning and was bright as a button, temperature gone, and asking for food. In both cases it did not occur to me they would need a doctor, because I know that the care I am attending them with is exactly the kind of care they would experience under 'medical attention'. The key here is focused attention. Trust and Action together ;) yah?

I'm now looking forward to helping my Dad in recovery and rehabilitation from his operation and the weeks he has spent being immobile. This I too trust will work through in Perfect Timing for him and for us too.

Bright Blessings for Beautiful Awareness

Imbalance within the body...what can you do about it?

Imbalance in the body is just as concerning to me as an imbalance in the outer environment of someone's house or property. I know from personal experience and observation that maintaining balance brings a better quality of Harmony to our Life Experience. In the video above you'll learn about....

"The 80:20 rule for optimal health
How we become acidic
What happens when we are acidic?
What are deep-greens?"

Take a look at this VERY informative video from ONEGroup/Miessence about the new product, 'Deep Green', and its amazing benefits! Presented by Narelle Chenery, one of Miessence's founders and formulator of new products.

In a nutshell, we as a society do not eat anywhere near the amounts of fresh fruit and vegetables we 'ought to', and we do not ingest enough fermented foods either. Our ancestors in their traditional lifestyles consumed a healthier intake of fresh seasonal foods, and fermented foods during times of lean harvest, and in doing so they were not only aligned with their environment, they were balancing their internal environment with their outer living environments too! So how much really 'green' food do you consume each day? each week?

A couple of questions for you to consider:
  1. Do you suffer from joint pain?
  2. Do you often have indigestion or bloating?
  3. Do you have recurring allergic reactions to foods like wheat and dairy?
  4. Do you have regular skin 'break outs' or adult acne?
  5. Do you lack energy even though you eat regularly?
If you've answered 'yes' to one or a few of those questions above you'll be interested in finding something that is going to work quickly to improve those conditions and ultimately remove them! And you don't need 'supplements', you need 'real foods'...
I've noticed that when I eat more deep green veges and fruits, take my Spirulina and Chlorella regularly, etc...that my joints feel so much better. The hip joints on my body have significant inflammation for a number of reasons, but it doesn't matter to me 'why' they hurt when all I want is pain relief.

Deep Green can offer you a quick, convenient and extraordinary value for money alternative to eating bowls and bowls of green leafy foods at each sitting, every day. And, once you hear *why* Deep Green outclasses nearly every other 'supplement' on the market you also see that spending money on empty supplements and painkillers is really just wasting money. (I think everyone hates wasting money!)

The same can be said for In-Liven Probiotic Superfood. It has 26 organic wholefoods and 13 different strains of beneficial bacteria in one tub! The convenience for people who are in the 'conversion' phase of removing unbeneficial foods from their diet is astounding with a product like this. You can effectively turn your health around before you've turned your dietary intake around :)

Blessings for pain free living with joyous digestion :)

How does Chlorophyll help me be healthy and pain free?

I know I'm not like other people...I can eat greens till they are literally coming out of my ears and not get tired of it, but, I do understand that not everyone feels this way about our leafy friends of the plant community ;) A good intake of green leafy veges is necessary for normal digestive balance. Green leafies are beneficial for a host of metabolic processes, however the most telling thing is that the Chlorophyll in deep green foods is VERY similar to Hemoglobin in our blood. Instead of being high in iron like Hemoglobin, Chlorophyll is high in magnesium.
Abundant Greens for sale at a community market...yum :)

Chlorophyll is responsible in part for balancing inflammation in the body, and recent studies into Ormus minerals and organic sulphur crystals, both found in raw vegetables, collaborates anti-inflammatory actions of green leafy vegetables in the metabolic process. This can mean a lot of easy, safe and controllable self-help for anyone who is experiencing ongoing inflammation pain from strained joints, injuries or illness. If you could reduce your pain in half just by consuming more Chlorophyll and knocking out painkilling medication you'd do it right? Well, actually most people wouldn't, and then they're stuck with the burden of carrying those injuries until they become chronic and the painkillers don't work anymore...

Chlorophyll also helps out by:
  • Clearing the skin because of its powerful antioxidant qualities and bacteria fighting nature
  • Replenishing our energy supply by strengthening our red blood cells
  • Cleans the intestinal tract, promoting great digestion and nutrient absorption
  • The organic sulphur content of raw, green leafies combats strong odours of the body caused by 'bad sulphur' build up ie: bad breath, strong smelling sweat or urine, or even odours from healing wounds
  • The antioxidant effect of chlorophyll inhibits bacterial growth and therefore can promote healing of all kinds of injuries and wounds

So how do you get more deep green veges into your body without loading up your dinner plates morning, noon and evening with a pile of leaves? It doesn't even sound appetising, unless of course you know what you're doing (adding good cold pressed oils, creamy plants like avocado, natural salts and salty veges too...a little heat from raw ginger, watercress, rocket or chilli, etc etc etc) and then its still going to take some time to 'get used to'. Our bodies aren't made to digest large quantities of cellulose that is in grasses, leaves and such. Why? Because we're humans; not cows, or deer or rabbits, which live primarily on breaking down leafy greens as they only food source. Humans can only digest small amounts of cellulose if any, most of the time it just passes through... What we need is the nutrient rich juices from these plants packed with the phytonutrients and chlorophyll to give us good health. We need to consume far more plant food than we do because it is source of rich bio-available nutrients for our bodies. Meats may have nutirients too, but their bio-availability is compromised due to the massive amounts of water and energy needed to digest them and extract those nutrients. So how do you get the nutrient dense juices without eating bowls and bowls of leaves?

Miessence have developed Deep Green, a powerful alkalising powder made from whole plant juices, which are then cool process dehydrated. You would receive 1 day's worth of 'green veges' in just one serving (1 teaspoon) of Deep Green. Yee-hah! I like that! Plus, its got to be certified organic if its from Miessence...It takes 30kg of dehydrated juice to make just 1kg of Deep Green powder. If you were to buy mainstream dehydrated greens you would more than likely be purchasing a product that is full of dehydrated cellulose, which your body doesn't digest. Its wasted dollars down the sewerage pipe! Deep Green is all dehydrated JUICE, so your body will use 100% of what you pay for! That's more like it!!

Deep Green is available in a 105g tub, which is roughly one month's worth of greens if you had it every day. On the days you consume large amounts of deep greens, you probably wouldn't need to take Deep Green too. It works out to approximately $2.90/serve...and that is very competitively priced in comparison to a shot of wheatgrass juice from a local juicing outlet... Deep Greens not only contains wheatgrass, but also oat, barley, alfalfa and kamut grass too, as well as spirulina, and nettle, collard, kale and parsley, giving it a great nutrient profile. And remember its the whole plant juice, without the cellulose 'filler' that is unfortunately included in many mainstream products.

Deep Green is available as a one tub buy, or in a trio with Berri Radical (antioxidant superfood powder) and In-Liven (probiotic protein and green powder). It is only available through a Miessence Rep or an authorised retail outlet.

Fast-Tract Gluten Free Probiotic - easy

If you've been struggling with uncomfortable cramps and bloating, or full blown IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) symptoms, you might think there's nothing you haven't already tried.  Fast-Tract is a certified organic fermented drink that is potent with good bacteria to help re-floralise your gut and improve overall digestive health.

Today's diets are saturated with processed flours, sugars and cheap oils like Canola and Sunflower (that are not cold-pressed). These things seriously deteriorate the ability for our bodies to function 'normally', and the answer is to radically improve (notice I did not write 'change') your food and drink intake. Obvious culprits to remove are sugars, flours and cheap or 'hydrogenated' oils. But what you might not be aware of is the chemical quotient of some marketed processed foods that are labelled 'gluten free'.  Be aware that these synthetics will do absolutely nothing to improve a sluggish digestive system or one that is severely under attack from harmful bacteria. Steer clear of processed and packaged foods.

Raw foods become a bit of an issue if your digestion can't break them down as it should be able to, and for this reason many IBS sufferers, or those even mildly gluten intolerant find that switching to a raw food intake becomes painful and just as uncomfortable...its very depressing and disheartening. What those people need to do is to help their systems re-floralise back to health, and by doing this, they will be able to break down those veges and eliminate painful gas accumulation/bloating etc. Another piece of advice would be to always include a kind of fruit or acid (lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, etc) with any meal to assist the breakdown of food in the digestive tract.

Fast-Tract is also beneficial for anyone who has had to take a course of anti-biotics through sickness, hospital birthing, or surgery, as these kill of the good bacteria as well as the bad... Recovery is enhanced with the intake of great quality probiotics because the body can effectively uptake nutrients from food. (and for nursing mumma's its essential to get this corrected for good milk supply and to help reduce the possibility of yeast infections and mastitis)

Fast-Tract is only available through a Miessence Representative or authorised retail dealer. As the dosage is only 25ml per day, the whole treatment is extremely economical compared with others, coming in at a cost of only $2.70 a day. Each bottle is approximately 1 month's treatment. Discounts apply for 'preferred customers' or join up as a Rep yourself to enjoy instant discounts on all products in the entire range and the benefits of having your very own certified organic business to utilise for you and your family and friends.

Apricot Coconut Bliss Balls

Its been a while since I refined one of my bliss ball recipes, but since I have been out and about with the new Home-Ed group doing 'park days' for around 10months now, I've found these little packets of energy just so, so useful to have in the picnic hamper. Especially when my 3year old has been taken with wanderlust a lot more, which leaves me not having lunch on the picnic blankets with other Mums, but out and about, here and there, following my little explorer with a handful of edible things to munch along the way.

This is a quick recipe, pretty fail-safe, dairy free and if you leave out the Raw Wheatgerm its also gluten free. Just a note on the ingredients; I always use foods that are as natural as possible, so that means, no GMO stuff, predominantly Certified Organic, and if I use dried fruits I obtain the kind that do not contain sulphites or preservatives. To me, there's no point in 'doing health food' if its not really, truly, healthy...

First up, the ingredients list:
200g Dried Apricots
Handful Dried Goji Berries
Handful Sultanas
12 Pitted Prunes
30ml Flaxseed Oil (cold-pressed, virgin)

5tblspns Fine Coconut
2tblspns Raw Wheatgerm (replace with Coconut or Chia Seeds if you want to have gluten free bliss balls)
2tblspns Dulse Flakes
2tblspns Chia Seeds
2tblspns Quinoa Grain

Handful Walnuts
Handful Almonds
One half or 3/4 of a Vanilla Pod

The method is to generally get the dried goods chopped up, the nuts whizzed in a food processor, then to add 'the other bits'...this is how I did it...

  1. Chop up the Vanilla Pod, Apricots, Sultanas, Goji Berries and Pitted Prunes and whizz them in the food processor for around a minute to get the Apricots finely chopped up. Tip that lot into a mixing bowl.
  2. Put the Nuts, Coconut, Raw Wheatgerm, Quinoa and Chia into the food processor and chop up till fine but slightly chunky here and there. 'Rubble' texture.
  3. Add the dried fruits mix back into the food processor along with the Flaxseed Oil, a little at a time. Blend until the mixture comes together in a blob.
  4. Remove from the food processor into the mixing bowl and give it a bit of a turn over with a tablespoon so that you are satisfied the ingredients are well mixed up.

Then its a case of rolling small portions into balls, and then rolling them in some more coconut so they don't stick together. Tub up and keep cool or refrigerate. These last for a day in a 'pack up' and make a tasty and super-nutritious snack. Refrigerate for a few weeks...but they'll be eaten before then anyway.

Enjoy! :)
Blessings

Tuning into Love - 019 'Shine like a Diamond'

It only takes one bout of 'the lurgy' to make me appreciate my general good to great health all the more. This last week I've nursed my three babies through a nasty set of high temperatures, snuffles, coughs, chills and the rest, till finally on the weekend I went down with the same thing. Perfect Timing of course, as my partner was home and could take care of them and me. (he was so pleased to go back to work on Monday, I can tell you)

We are all on the mend now, thanks to a weaving of therapies like Homeopathy (thanks to my beautiful friend Butterfly), Crystal Therapy (Oh how I LOVE and appreciate Black Tourmaline and Clear Quartz), Aromatherapy (Yay for Eucalyptus, Cedarwood and Lavender mixes!), Hydration Therapy, Massage (Sinus massage and Lymph massage help incredibly well), Yogic Breathing exercises, heaps of nutritious superfood smoothies, the blessing of having Holy Basil growing plentifully and mixing it with pure, natural honey, and finally, the 'lifesaver', Sea Salt.

When a body is depleted of nutrients because its run down, exhausted or over stressed, it is open to infections, and this can lead to ill-health. Restoring this nutrient balance is essential for a quick and full recovery. I had been able to just click into gear with all of the therapies I've mentioned but strangely, I'd not given myself the Sea Salt. Come to the 2nd day of being 'ill', and I'd just had enough. (I do not know HOW I got through adolescence let alone childhood with the relentless barrage of sickness I experienced almost on a monthly basis)

Another dose of Rescue Remedy and more water, and while it calmed me I wanted to be 'well'. I was lying there and suddenly I noticed that the thing MOST annoying me was my 'lack of connection', my mojo was running low! I felt 'unaware'. My consciousness seemed drastically impaired and as I drifted off into a daydream I had a vision of blue crystalline structures, washing into my Mind. 'Sploooshy' waves of 'ahhhhh'. Then, 'ping!', I remembered the salt.

Over the next few hours each time I had my Holy Basil leaves and honey I also gave myself a pinch of ground up Celtic Sea Salt. Its got the highest content of minerals of all the sea salts. Within two hours I'd got a huge turnaround. This was about 3 or 4 doses of salt, taken with the other things and lots of water too...got to have water to help the body assimilate it all. I sat down to meditate/rest/re-align and had a beautiful vision of my body radiating Light from a myriad of pinpoints. As if all the Meridian junctions were lighting up!
''I tune into Love by nourishing my Self''
''I access infinite Solutions with Perfect Ease''

Our Inner Light of Knowledge is a powerful teacher. It stores all that information we have accummulated and  waits for you to connect in and access it. Crystals are used in computers to store just a fraction of what the  Mind can retain, so imagine how many 'crystals' there are inside you now! Shine like a Diamond? More like 'Blaze like the Sun'! :)) ''Flame ON!!'' :))

Using Botanical Sources for Vitamins and Minerals - Part 2

Modern lifestyles need more nutrients to help modern humans cope with the demands on their energy. What we consume is the key to gaining long term good health, overcoming short term illness and coping with everyday stresses we encounter. Most people will have at one time or another reached for a 'multi-vitamin' to do these things for them, or to assist in overall good health, or because a blood test revealed they were 'low' in a certain vitamin or mineral. Taking in vitamins and minerals as tablets may be beneficial, but there are other parameters to consider.

For example:
Why is your blood testing 'low' in any particular vitamin or mineral? What kind of health issues show up as depleted Iron, Magnesium, Zinc etc...?
What has your recent health 'history' got to tell you about the strength of your immune system?
Are you conscious about what you eat? or do you consume mindlessly?
Are you eating raw food often enough to gain the best possible quality of vitamins or minerals?
What is in your multi-vitamin broad spectrum supplement? Do they contain a colour, or flavour, or preservative?
Where have these minerals and vitamins come from? Are they sourced from animal byproducts?

When you consume nutrients as food you gain so much more because the 'whole food' contains a broad spectrum of constituents, like oils, acids and fibre, that assist you in absorbing those very nutrients. This is how the human body is 'set up' to receive nutrients,...its why our digestive systems are so complex and marvelous.

Getting the best quality food means getting the most nutrient dense food, which is organically grown without pesticides and herbicides, but also with soils that have been cultivated using organic nourishment. I often raise my eyebrows at that constant mainstream 'whine' that certified organic produce costs more,... because it will actually end up saving you money due to the nutrient density of the foods. Vitamin and mineral supplements can be an expensive alternative to just buying good quality food in the first place....and botanical sources are by far the cheapest way to get your nutrients in a way that your body finds easy to absorb and use.

There is one particular mineral that you can consume to help your overall health and have noticeable improvement in just a week or so, and that is Zinc. Zinc is like a 'building block' for cells, and imperative for good cell health, meaning that without it the whole building (our body) falls down. Its found in a variety of foods already covered in Part 1, but here's a list of Zinc rich foods you can eat in your everyday diet.
Pumpkin seed and flesh
Spinach and silverbeet
Asparagus
Peas
Brussel Sprouts
Seeds - Chia, Sunflower and Poppy
Seed and Nut paste - Tahini, ABC spread (almond, brazil and cashew)
Dried fruits - Figs, Currants and Bananas
Fresh fruits - Avocado, Apricots, Dates
Winter fruits - Blackberries and Blueberries
Oats (raw)

The absorption of Zinc can open up a pathway to good health because it assists absorption of other minerals and vitamins. Because it is a key to good cell health it enables the cell to firstly obtain good nutrients, expel waste, and know what to do with the other nutrients in your digestive system. Smart little blighters your cells aren't they? :)

Part 3 will conclude with beneficial oils, acids and probiotics from botanical sources. :)

Using Botanical Sources for Vitamins and Minerals - Part 1

Whenever I've started researching vitamin and mineral supplements I've usually been concerned about whether the manufacturer has used any fillers or additives in the product, or I've been interested to know 'where does this mineral come from?', 'what is it's source?'. I know that I'm far happier not 'popping pills' and prefer to get my nutrient intake from fresh and usually raw foods.
But why do I do this?
Botanical sources of vitamins and minerals are more digestable, take less energy to digest, and when used in combinations that compliment each other can optimise the absorption within the body.
Cool hey ? :)

Real Breakfast Smoothie

I think one of the biggest hurdles I've overcome in regards to my intake of food has been the realisation that 'cereal' is not really a food. Its used all over the globe, I know, but 'cereal' wasn't always this precooked , flattened, and dehydrated mush I was brought up to believe was a good start to the day. Raw, cracked or rolled seeds and grains with fruit is an alternative (think muesli without the harmful sulphites of the mainstream products) but it takes a while to understand you only need a few tablespoons of the seeds and nuts to equal about six 'wheatbix' or a bowl of cornflakes. And then there is the excessive chewing :)

I'm a little partial to be downright LAZY when it comes to the morning intake of food.
I love it when someone puts breakfast together, and at the moment I still eat some cooked food with my partner, but generally I've been starting my day with a smoothie, and I can tell you very honestly that even though I love eggs on a little toast with salt, my body feels better when I go the smoothie...

Here's my 'everyday smoothie' recipe for a kickstart to the morning that will keep you going until lunchtime and beyond. And yes, it'll be GREEEEEN and yummy.

250 - 400ml Oatmilk (depends on how 'hungry' you feel)
One ripe Banana
1 tblsp Flaxseed Oil
1 tblsp Spirulina Powder
1 tblsp In-Liven Probiotic Superfood Powder
A pinch of Cinnamon powder
A quarter of a Vanilla Pod (or use a little Vanilla powder if you have it)
A very small pinch of Celtic Sea Salt
A splash of Kefir Milk (optional...you could use a good biodynamic yoghurt if you wanted to)
1 tblsp Tahini Paste
1 tblsp Raw Honey
A handful of herbs (usually Parsley, Holy Basil 'Tulsi Rama', Oregano...but you can use Sweet Basil, Dill, Coriander or similar leafy and fragrant herbs)

Pulse in a Blender to break up the bigger bits of Banana, then Whizz on 'high' for 15 seconds or so. Adjust to 'low' speed for about 10 seconds or so.

Pour into a cup or glass and down the hatch it goes! Instant good food straight into the body :)

No Chewing!!

ABC Superfood Balls

Ingredients

1/2 cup Raw Almonds

1/4 cup Raw Brazil Nuts

1/2 cup Raw Cashews

1 cup dried Apricots

1&1/2 tablespoons Coconut Oil (cold pressed extra virgin)

1 teaspoon ground Cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground Nutmeg

Method

· In a 1.5 or 1.8L processor bowl, place the raw nuts and pulse to break them up. Take a handful or two aside to use to roll the balls in and prevent the finished balls from sticking together.

· Process the nuts until they are a rough ‘meal’ consistency...like rustic wholemeal flour.

· Chop up the dried apricots and add them to the bowl.

· Pulse to break them up and mix them through.

· Process the mixture until the apricots are in small pieces/chunks about the size of small raisins.

· Add the dried spices and mix together.

· Add the coconut oil and mix on medium to blend the ingredients well.

· Test the mixture so that it stays together when you pinch it. (if you need to add a little more coconut oil do so in half teaspoon increments until you reach a good consistency)

· Using a teaspoon, scoop out a small amount of mixture and roll it into a ball, then roll it in some of the nut meal. Continue until the mixture is all rolled into balls and coated in nut meal.

· Place in a jar or container in the fridge so they can solidify.

These are delicious with
chai tea or dandelion root drink, and a good way of getting an instant energy boost without consuming sugar.

You could add some raw cacao, or Berry Radical powder to this mixture and make it ‘chocolatey’, or substitute the nut meal coating with Quinoa or Amaranth flakes to give it extra protein. The nut and dried fruit mix is full of vitamins and minerals to support you when you need that extra bit of help to get through the day. And, this is all processed sugar free. Great hey :)

You're not hungry,...you're malnourished!

Food now is so low in natural nutrients that we have an epidemic of malnutrition. That means we are not receiving the necessary minerals, vitamins and trace elements necessary for basic health.

If you take a look at the average dietary intake of an adult it is shockingly poor in raw and unprocessed, high quality fruit and vegetables. Unfortunately the era of 'convenient foods' has come and its brought with it a host of side effects, similar to the problem we see with pharmaceutical medicines.

Society just can't seem to get enough of pizza, pasta, biscuits, breads, 'energy snack bars', cereal for breakfast, and 'fast food' like burgers, chips etc that are laden with bad fats and sugars as well as synthetic salt. The saddest thing is that this generation and the last, and the one before that, has been brought up to believe that these things are 'food' when in fact they are 'filler', just like chaff that livestock are fed to fatten them up. We aren't hungry, we don't NEED breakfast lunch and dinner to be such enormous undertakings and in such huge servings, its absurd. WE aren't doing 10 to 14 hr heavy labour days, tilling fields and tending to livestock....most of us work behind a counter or a computer! But the programming is there, and the more sedentary lives we lead the worse off we become using the kind of diet intake that our ancestors used. We aren't living and existence even close to what they were, so our need to change is imperative for our own health.

It takes a giant mind-bend to get past 20 or 30 years (or more) of programming, to realise that real food is fresh, its unprocessed and it doesn't necessarily need to be cooked. Changing your dietary intake by just 25% to raw and unprocessed high quality fruit and vegetables will increase your ability to not only burn fat, but also to throw off small infections like the common cold and flu! Many people find that allergies simply disappear, aches in the joints and pain dissolve within a few days, and syndromes vanish with the change in diet. My personal experience is that several long term (20years +) health issues were healed by introducing fresh food and probiotics, and the removal of toxic food.

Processed sugars, grains and fats are not foods. But they fill you up a little for a time, and turn off the 'hungry' switch in the brain. Yet only an hour or so later you're ready for morning tea or a snack. Why is this? It's because you haven't actually got the nutrition you require from those foods. Its as simple as that...you are malnourishing yourself with heaps of food. Odd, isn't it?

Being healthy isn't about 'finding the substitute' for what you are eating now. It is the REMOVAL of what is harmful in your diet now and INTRODUCING nourishing foods. This introduction can be done gradually which is good for you and your body too.

What to REMOVE:
White Flour products
Processed Grain products (breakfast cereals)
Factory farmed meat of all kinds (use wild caught game if you cannot do without meat)
Processed and packaged foods with additives and preservatives
Processed Sugar and products (sweets, lollies, etc)
Fried fats and oils
Dairy Milk products

What to INTRODUCE:
Fresh fruit and vegetables (from your local area if possible)
Fresh herbs (from your own garden or pot garden if possible)
Raw Honey and Dried Fruits (use dried fruits without sulphur and preservatives of course)
Nuts and nut milks
High Protein grains (Amaranth, Quinoa etc)
Probiotics (as drinks or cultured vegetables & fruits)
Good hydration from clean, pure water

I have personally introduced all of these measures over the last 3 years, and find that whenever I do eat any of the 'REMOVE' list I suffer with headaches, or have an emotional 'blow out' similar to what I always thought was 'normal'. Now I know its a reaction to my dietary intake, and its enormously obvious! Good health is so easy, but it takes commitment, and it takes time. However 'inconvenient' we may feel these changes might be, it is a lot more inconvenient to deal with illhealth and medications, intervention and surgery for ailments and diseases that are a direct result of taking in toxic food.

We can't help living in a world that is toxic, but we CAN help ourselves to remove as much toxin from our bodies as we can.

Salt Therapy for colds & flu

Salt therapy is pretty simple.
I use really potent mineral salts like Himalayan Salt crystals or Celtic Sea Salt (which is highest in trace elements), but you can easily use plain rock salt. Do not use plain table salt as it does not contain the valuable amounts of trace elements (that's why you see some table salt with 'added iodine'). Read this article here, for more information on why natural salts are far superior and safer than 'man made' salts.

Depending on your tastes, you can simply put two crystals under your tongue every 4 or so hours during the day and let them dissolve, or wash them straight down with water.

While doing salt therapy its best to stick to water and not juices (like orange or apple) as the body will appreciate more water than sugar. Do however, eat fresh whole fruit here and there as they will do you good, especially if you can get the lower sugar fruits like Blueberries, fresh Figs, Paw Paw (papaya) or similar.

Salt breaks up mucus in the body, water assimilates the trace elements to your cells. The results are that you move through the 'holding pattern' reaction of mucus buildup, fevers, sweating etc... and forward towards an immune system that is chucking off the virus causing the reaction in the first place.
NB: you will pee a lot ;)

This sort of therapy is going to remove toxins from your body, so roll with it, keep up the water intake (at least a half litre per hour or more if you can manage it during the day) and have a few quick warm showers throughout the day. This will help you feel energised, and it can alleviate any skin irritations that may arise from the toxin release.

Beetroot Smoothie Recipe

Yes, it will be dark pink in colour...lets just get that over with. :)

Beetroot is the kind of vegetable that you might get and wonder 'what the heck do I do with this?', and the usual thing is to cover it in oil, add a bit of garlic and roast it. Or, if you've only ever had beetroot from a tin, you might be amazed at how good the raw thing is for you.

This glorious royal coloured root vegetable is packed full of vitamins, minerals and trace elements. It can assist with overall heart health, and if you follow the Theory of Signatures in herbal and natural medicine, you can just LOOK at a beetroot and know it will assist your heart and pulmonary system from the shape of the tuber and the stem and leaf symbology.

Grating it raw and throwing it through a coleslaw, or using it as filling on a flat bread wrap (with lots of other good raw stuff like grated carrot, kale, cabbage, spinach and a little Tahini paste) are good ways of experimenting with including this particular vege in your diet. Beetroot is slightly sweet in taste, so it can be a hit with kids...but you know the reason I do love it the most is that it makes everything PINK! and that means you can hide lots of other goodies in the drink without anyone ever knowing that they are there.

This smoothie recipe contains Spirulina Powder, which is sometimes difficult to get people to drink as it is really bright green. I kinda like that...but everyone is different ;) When I put half a teaspoon of powdered Spirulina into the drink it just vaguely affected the colour, basically, the smoothie stayed bright pink.

Ingredients
Half a grated or sliced raw beetroot (wash it thoroughly before preparing)
Half a grated or sliced raw apple (skin on or off, its your choice)
One cup of Oat Milk (or you can use Rice Milk, or Soy, just make sure they are non GMO!)
A shake of Cinnamon and Nutmeg
A handful of fresh herbs like Mint, Basil and Oregano (whatever you have to hand is great, but try to include the Mint and Basil)
1 tablespoon of Lemon Juice
1 tablespoon of Flaxseed Oil
Half a teaspoon of Spirulina Powder

Add all of the ingredients into a blender, and pulse to break up the bulk of it. Whizz for about 30 seconds on High. Serve in a tall glass or mug. (yes, it is going to be full of 'bits' to crunch up, but generally, you can drink it down - so if you have an aversion to 'bits in it' drinks, strain it through a sieve)

This will keep you going for hours. Excellent as a morning liquid breakfast or as a meal substitute when you are shedding some kilos or just detoxing for health.

Enjoy!
:)

'What's Up Sweet?' from the HTCM

Nutrition has become a very important part of my life. It began with the diagnosis of my husband with a cholesterol problem after a back injury immobilised him. This was over 10years ago, and I remember the nutritionist’s advice to ‘read labels’ and take notice of the additives, and the fat and sugar levels. I remember thinking “Sugar? He’s got to watch the sugar? Why? Isn’t cholesterol a problem with fats?” But no, the kind of sugar you consume can seriously affect your health. Processed sugar (sucrose) is now the most commonly ingested sweetener, with more and more kinds of processed sweeteners, natural and synthetic, being launched onto the product shelves. When the body can make sugar from the carbohydrates it consumes anyway, the question has to be asked, ‘do we need to eat sugar?’

The physiological issues are of course Diabetes, Cholesterol (high triglyceride levels) skin problems, menstrual problems, yeast infections, and increased energy levels leading to ‘shakes’. You may hear someone say they need to have a ‘sugar-fix’ because they’ve got ‘the shakes’, but what is happening is the body is in a process of ‘coming down’ from a sugar fix….The most obvious behavioural, mental and psychological issues brought on by high sugar intake are Bi-polar disorders and varying levels of Depression, which are common side effects of the body’s own balancing act.

The role of insulin in the body is to regulate the blood sugar levels, and when we have had a huge ‘hit’ of sugar, our body naturally injects a huge burst of insulin into the bloodstream to counteract the massive mental ‘high’ from the sugar. When the body is subjected to this kind of treatment over and over again, several times a day, everyday, it can cause serious problems in a short amount of time. Our brains get the effect of the endorphin rush from the injection of insulin, and this makes us feel ‘up’. It’s a mood enhancer. When this kind of action is being taken over and over again, it represses the ability of the brain to make endorphins, and this can lead to long term and deep depressive states...or the addiction to sugar intake as a way to feel good. Yet while sugar will make you feel good quickly, it is short lived in the body, and the insulin ‘downer’ will be active long after the sugar high is gone.

So what sugar is good sugar?

Natural sugars that occur in fruits and vegetables are easily processed by the body, and it usually takes a huge amount of these foods to produce the kind of effects that come from a comparatively small amount of processed sugar. For this reason it is always preferable to have small amounts of naturally occurring sugar over any kind of processed sugar.

The reason for this is because natural sugars in fruit, ‘fructose’, has all its chemical bonds in place, whereas processed sugar does not. It takes a lot longer for the body to process fructose and so the energy it receives from it has a sustained release, not a quick blast.

Have you ever wondered what kind of processes and chemicals are used to produce common white sugar?

When I went to school I was taught about sugar production, as it was one of the biggest industries in Queensland. I never remember them including the bit about the chemicals added during the process...it was all explained as a ‘heating and cooling’ process...but actually, there are lots of processes the sugar cane juice goes through that I was never told about.

Firstly the sugar cane juice is mixed with lime (no, not the fruit) to get the right ph level (acidity). Through evaporation the crystals are separated and further dried. White sugar is obtained by adding sulphur dioxide to the cane juice before evaporation (this bleaches the mixture). “In the production of refined white sugar, which is the most common product in the Western world, the raw sugar syrup is mixed with a heavy syrup and run through a centrifuge again to take away the outer coating of the raw sugar crystals. Phosphoric acid and calcium hydroxide are then added to the juice which then combine and absorb or trap impurities. Alternatively, carbon dioxide is used to achieve the same effect. The resulting syrup is then filtered through a bed of activated carbon to remove molasses and then crystallized a number of times under vacuum. It is then further dried to produce white refined sugar like we buy in the store.” (www.Greenlivingtips.com) That’s a fair amount of heating, whizzing, evaporating, chemical additives and more evaporating before its packaged and distributed….seems there is more to sugar than just having a little in your tea or coffee…

Apart from the physiological and psychological problems associated with high intake of processed sugar, there is the environmental issues relating to sugar cane farms. Toxic chemical run-off and overspray from pesticides and herbicides as well as fertilisers, is a major pollutant for the surrounding areas. This is all before the sugar cane area has been delineated, cleared (felling natural vegetation and habitat), planted, fertilised, sprayed, and then burnt off for harvesting…These points are in need of considering, if we, as a society want to do all we can to promote a world that our children’s children can inherit. Obtaining certified organic cane sugar can at least give you the peace of mind that your sweet tooth is not causing overt pollution, however, the best thing to do would be to dramatically cut down or avoid processed sugar. There are alternatives out there, and they’re natural, and they’re better for you.

I am a recovering sugar addict, who, like so many others who stumble out of the daze of sugar addiction, wants to shout it out to the world about how good it feels to be processed sugar free! Apologies to those who are enjoying their sugar fixes though...I do ‘get’ where you’re at. For help with getting off the processed sugar roundabout, you might like to consider a ‘My Chi’ consultation which can address this as one of your Key Issues. http://www.holistictherapyconnections.com/jthtcmychi.html ~ Jannette Tibbs
