Feng Shui Symbology - Entrances

This is a subject close to my heart. I find that the representation of our life is reflected in the presentation of the entrance to our homes. When I have been 'very busy' my front door area can appear a little unattended...still loved (statue, potted plants, doormat etc) but lacking that 'shiny' quality that goes with a space receiving great energetic maintenance.

happy plants, easy to navigate path and a door that looks inviting...

Feng Shui uses the term 'Ming Tang' to describe the area inside and outside the entrance to a building. Its also called 'The Mouth of Chi', but this is often represented as just the entrance door. This very important area is the symbolic invitation to 'the world' from the occupants, and sets up a Resonance Effect that will ripple through the experiences of the occupants, their guests and the building itself.

The possible Symbology of an Unhelpful Ming Tang...

  •  Bins at a front door (or rubbish, cartons etc) imbue the area with low level energy from decay and bad smells. This can indicate people who do not care about themselves very well, or who do not care for visitors. It may indicate people who are extremely 'absent minded'.
  • A door without a doormat infers that the occupants have set no boundary...and may take on other people's problems to avoid their own. It displays a 'lack of self-worth', and is reflected in a lack of caring for their living space. They may also be the kind of person who is extremely easy going to the point of exasperating others! :)
  • A door that is tired looking, paint peeling, dirty/dusty, with a rickety handle implies the occupants do not care about possessions, and do not care about boundaries. They may be a person who allows others to 'walk all over' them.
  • A doorway with lots of cleaning apparatus around (buckets, mops, brooms, dustpan and brush etc) implies the people who live there are very busy and unorganised. They likely have too much work coming in to the house and do cleaning in a rapid or haphazard way, leaving the tools lying around. It shows an overwhelmed Mind and probably tired bodies too. It is indicative of people who have a skewed perception of what abundance really is, and work hard for financial gain at the expense of their health and relationship happiness.
  • Covered windows on either side of the welcome and an overt amount of security (when other neighbours do not have similar) infer the occupants are afraid of the outside world and may have severe fear issues. They are more than likely distrustful of others due to unhappy experiences, or because they are not trustworthy. It can also indicate people who are extremely 'possession oriented', and believe that their 'things' are so valuable that everyone will be out to 'get them'.
  • Piles of shoes at the front door imply that the occupants have a skewed view of 'cleanliness' or may be obsessively clinical in the appearance of the interior of their house. (however, piles of shoes outside a temple or similar, is tradition...) A basket, rack or tub for 'outdoor' shoes is perfectly acceptable, and shows an organised approach to housekeeping and keeping order in general.
overflow, but not abundance overflow,... this is overflow undirected....
  • Leaking drainpipes or gutters at the entrance door indicate there may be financial issues with money flowing out as fast as it flows in...an accumulation is almost impossible and the occupants can end up suffering from 'I hate my house' syndrome...which leads to low level energy in them and the house!
  • Stagnant water, cracked pots, dead or dying plants and general debris littering the area indicate a source of Sha (low level, rushing or unbeneficial energy) and sometimes Si (very low level, detrimental energy) Chi, and needs to be rectified quickly to avoid potential misfortunes. People with houses like this are usually 'over-run by life', are exhausted, oppressed and in need of support and assistance. They are also more than often feeling aggressive towards the world because the energy of their front door is so bad it becomes a source of constant irritation. This manifests a house which may have many arguments and gossip.

What should you do if your front door area doesn't represent a great invitation to The Universe? Easy. Fix it up! Many aspects of Feng Shui are not about having something 'new' or spending loads of money on decorator items etc, its about regular maintenance and a general Love imbued into the space by occupants. If somewhere is old and shabby it may still have beautiful Feng Shui because it has been lovingly maintained by the owners or occupants...

Quick Tips for a Great Invitation!
1. Doormat....make it big and clean and durable. Pay a little more than you might normally, and get a good quality mat. Clean it regularly (each week is good) by giving it a good 'thwacking' against a wall or downpipe :) (your weekly stress release...)

2. Sweep up the area and the pathway if you have one. Clear away dead or dying plants, any clutter and organise your 'outdoor' shoe rack/tub/basket.
Yes, this is extremely 'swish' isn't it? but it gives you a goal, ... or just an idea ;]

3. Prune overhanging branches or vines that may 'grab' at you or your guests, so you can enter the house with ease. Arrange pots so that a straight pathway is slowed down to create a meandering pathway to the door. Make sure lights are working so you and night time visitors are able to find their way safely. (movement sensor lights are energy efficient and practical if appropriately placed)

4. Establish potplants that are easy to care for, and are appropriate for growing in pots in the kind of area your front door is (ie: shady or sunny, etc) Take care of them well and make them a source of Sheng (high level) Chi for you each time you come home :)

5. Put a bright brassy doorbell or door hammer at the front door so that guests will be heard. This also stimulates the Chi at your front door favourably. A statue of an angel, fairy or buddha etc...is also helpful to establish a certain kind of energy layer on this area of the property. You could have the statue on the front windowsill inside to connect the great energy outside with the inside entrance area...

6. Light some incense inside or out (or both) each day (or when you have a moment) and impress upon this area your purpose to invite only the best quality experiences into your Life via your home.

High quality energy at your front door rewards you with a calm and beautiful space to come home to each day, or greet your guests with, and helps to imbue a sense of Harmony into a house. Negavtive Qi at your front door is a sure fire way of bringing misfortune to your Life Experience. Because it is so easy to fix up, everyone should have a go at experimenting with enhancing and improving the energy of the entrance to their property, and enjoy the benefits of great quality Chi flowing into their building and their lives.

Tuning into Love - 009 'The Love of a Good Book'

I had to go through my storage boxes recently, did a clean out, clean up, sorted, itemised, categorised and culled...you know what I mean...a 'de-cluttering'. Very cathartic as usual, but what was so great was that I looked through my 'book box' and came across a few things I was so pleased I'd kept 'for later'. Like finding jewels on a beach...

'cuddles'

One of them was 'an indigo Celebration - More Messages Stories, and Insights from the Indigo Children' by Lee Carroll and Jan Tober. I received this book as a gift from one of my sisters when my first daughter was just 5 years old and my son just turned 2. We'd already noticed that they had wisdom and that 'knowing' quality beyond their years, and this book was wonderful to read with many 'ah hah' moments, and the usual "oh wow, my children do that kind of thing too!" realisations.

Reading it again is tuning me back into those feelings of unconditional LOVE for my children when I was first noticing that they were so enraptured with everything, and so willing to share their knowledge. It began a roller coaster ride of learning and growing for me, and I'll never be able to express how grateful I am to them for being so patient with me, when at times I look back on my behaviour with slight and extreme embarrassment...but its nice to know that most parents go through this,...and its great to acknowledge the progress I've achieved...that's gotta be a good thing :)

"I tune into Love through acknowledging my achievements"

It's all too easy to be hard on yourself for perceived grievances, personal 'shortcomings' and unintended upsets...so view your past 'in widescreen', and give yourself the opportunity to learn from what's happened. Be happy that you're aware enough to acknowledge the lesson, some of us are yet to tune into that particularly important part of 'being here now'.

Tuning into Love - 008 'all sorted'

Our living spaces and work spaces take a lot of our attention, and as we now know, 'energy flows where attention goes' (...or is that the other way round?) I love my workspace...I love it even more when I get it organised and sorted out. Over the course of a month my workspace can go from super minimalistic to completely eclectic without me realising how its happening. Its just one day's worth of 'this' popped here to do tomorrow, which might not get seen to for a few days, or a client's work being postponed for a week, or a new manuscript plonked on the desk a fortnight early...Life just happens.

Yesterday, the Full Moon outflow really kicked in and I did a major (major) cleanup and sort out in my office. The result was *sparkly* and gave me new enthusiasm to 'get things done' in my workspace. Gotta Love That.

Before the cleanup....
After cleanup :)

So today (and well, yesterday too)

Tuning into Love - 007 'things that make you go hmmmmm'

Yes, things that make you go 'hmmmmmmm', but in a really good way ;)

I tune into the frequency of Love when I listen to my children, specifically when I am listening to them resolving some issue. We home-ed our kids, and they have loads of free time to do their projects, or play or both, and its often the case that one child wants to do 'this', the other wants to do 'that', and they are both nearly thwarted in both regards by the little one wanting to do something entirely different. It can lead to arguments, disagreements and cranky behaviour.

What I love to listen for is the moment of realisation when they observe there is no way they can all do what they want IF it requires the assistance, or involvement of one of the others. This is a moment of magic to listen for, and I do know that at times when I'm trying to concentrate on writing some article, or a report, or doing research, I've inadvertently stopped this moment of magic by requesting heartily that they "quieten it down please!"...but I do love it when I'm able to just quiet myself, and listen to them.

I listen and I hear them negotiate, compromise and often find they need to comply with rules that may have been set before...eg: "you said that if I built Lego with you that you'd help me do a cardboard box castle!", or "I've been painting for AGES! you said we'd play Star Wars after we'd painted..." and I just grin thinking about how many adults don't even know how to do this! :)

The end result is a resolution! A beautiful, perfect resolution leading to many more moments of happy learning, or fun, or both.
Kids...they're so great :)

Tuning into Love - 006 'Buddha Blessings'

MY Happy-Abundance-Wealth-Prosperity Buddhas with tumbled Citrine for extra mojo... :)
Tuning into Love through visual representations is something we probably don't take a heap of notice of when it happens. We may find we feel happier, or softer, or more compassionate...its an unconscious shift in emotional or mental perspective. I've noticed that since my focus in life shifted towards finding more clarity, peace and harmony that I've had a influx of Buddhas into my life, my home ... and it feels like being blessed over and over again.

These happy little blokes in the photo above sit around my house, being moved here and there with the energy, or the children's wishes, or my need to 'clean up' and 'get minimal' in one area or another. They make their way all over the place, and sometimes I'll find them on a shelf they've never visited before, or popped into a display cabinet with a dragon or a teacup. Odd to come upon them like that, but I know they've got their own agenda, and I know that they are blessing things as they move around the house, so I leave them to it and just smile. I do Love my little happy buddhas, and they enable me to tune into the frequency of Love so easily.

Buddha is such an iconic figure in so many cultures, and it is lovely to see it becoming mainstream, used in interior decorating to infuse a space with a certain message. We should all be so lucky to have places with such extreme harmony like this example below. Very minimal but also clean, tidy, organised and very relaxing (to me). I do also like the 'drama' of a totally black wall. Its ded sexy really.... :)

Gorgeous interior treatment using a Buddha focal point (pic from www.decoration.home-lux.com/home-decoration)
As all things carry a vibrational message, its interesting to note that the word Buddha comes from a Sanskrit word meaning 'enlightened' or 'aware'. Buddha means 'the enlightened one'. Being 'more aware' in life only leads to more clarity, and with clarity comes good decisions, helpful choices and the manifestation of a life lived consciously. Gotta love that ;)

Buddhas are all around my home now, and I receive them as presents. A gorgeous white stone Buddha for my dressing table from my partner, a beautiful Kuan Yin Buddha for my house from a dear friend, a child sized statue (again from my partner) for the front door to greet our guests, and a set of 'Medicine Buddha'  prayer flags that I used for years until they literally fell apart; their blessings scattered on the winds.

This image of Buddha in the meditation pose is my favourite. A calming, serene and quietening figure to encourage me towards enlightened thinking, and a conduit for Love.

Tuning into Love - 005 'Chai Blessings'

Chai Bliss Blessings from Butterfly
Ahhhhh Chai. I tune into Love so easily when I make my Chai each day. This chai is super special organic angel blessed reiki-fied fantasticness from my dear friend Butterfly Tara, who hand makes her complete dried spice mix chai with a mortar and pestle. Why this makes it so much more than other chai blends I've tried can only be because she infuses each batch with Love :) And I get a card with each refill order that is full of special blessings and words that make me reach out across time and space to hug my friend, with a smile on my face too.

The smell of pure spice chai is a potent power pack of clearing and healing and soothing and smoothing goodness straight to my body. I liken it to the experience of smelling Basilica Incense...simply divine in more ways than one...It has become a ritual now, the taking of ChaiBliss for breakfast, lunch or tea; sometimes on a cold Winter evening when I've needed warming up, I've used my chai ritual to infuse my life with this very spicy mixture made with Love.

Tuning into Love - 004 'My things'

Do you love all your possessions? It's sort of hard to if you share your possessions with other members of the house, or your partner. But there are always a few things that are exclusively yours (apart from the toothbrush and your knickers of course...well,...hopefully these are exclusively yours...) and those things can really help us tune into the frequency of Love. Sometimes the adoration I have for a particular possession is quite absurd, for example, I have a fantastic pair of pyjamas with teacups all over them. I have worn them nearly every day since I got them and rush to wash them in the early morning on wash day so they'll dry by night-time again :)) Silly, I know, but I just love'em!

I have a bit of a love affair with all things 'tea'. Having the correct teacup has been important to me ever since I can remember, and its been awfully disappointing to stay over at a friends house, or go on holiday and have tea in cups that just don't suit tea. Or to find they've stored the Peppermint teabags in with the other herb tea and everything has a stale tint of mintyness to it....Strange little things like this disrupt my joy, and I do like to let the joy flow freely in life, so recently I purchased my very own special cup and saucer set...and now, now I'm feeling the Love :)

Ah, my tea shelf. In my ideal house the tea shelf would be a whole cupboard...
Possessions are important to our sense of security. They bring various levels of energy signatures. One of the visual appeal, two, the memory of its purchase perhaps, that 'retail thrill' of finding what you were looking for ;), three the feeling you get from holding that possession or using it and the joy it brings. We invest a lot of energy in our possessions and the storage of them, so its only natural that these things hold a lot of messages for us and from us too. That's why de-cluttering and Space Clearing can be a very draining thing to do, but the reward is sparkly new spaces and bright new energy.

"I tune into the Love of my personal belongings"

I love my 'things about me' and never complain about dusting or cleaning them. I know there are people in the world who would give anything to be able to have the security of knowing exactly where their possessions were, and that they were safe and cared for, so its a blessing to have my things and take care of them too.

What do you have within reach that you just adore and gives you the ability to tune into Love right now?

Tuning into Love - 003 'ahhhh, .... clouds'

Oh one of the most accessible Loves in my life, ... cloudwatching. Now, some may say this is wasteful daydreaming and I would debate this to my last breath...
Daydreaming is nourishing. Being able to connect with the natural world in a symbiotic exchange of Love and respect is All Good.

'
'Dragon Head with tongue out, and "can you see the little baby elephant?"' taken by Charlotte Tibbs
As an avid sky watcher and Feng Shui enthusiast, I do take notice of what part of the sky a formation or configuration occurs, and see if that has particular significance. Often, more than often, it does :) Dragons in the NW help me to keep an eye out for a mentor or helpful person coming into my life, perhaps wise decisions regarding a progressive phase. Pheonix in the SE points to a new growth or wealth situation. Humming Birds right above you ask you to stop and listen to their resonant message...Goddesses in the SW allow me to know I am able to work with support for my relationships, etc...

And then there are times when the clouds seem to reflect my mood of being in a time of change, in a phase...

Mottled clouds at the end of Winter - taken by Charlotte Tibbs
Viewing the natural world like this helps me to remember that things happen in sequence, and that I have no need to worry about not being 'at a certain point' in my life right now, as it will all come in Perfect Timing. All I gotta do is sit back, allow the winds of change to waft on through, and let the sun shine on down :)

Cloud Watching should be every culture's national pastime :))

"I now connect to Love through the messages from Nature and Beauty"

Scrying via the natural world is a time honoured tradition, and its accessible, and its adaptable to you and your surroundings. Even in the city you can look out a window and cloud watch during a break, or lunchtime. Give it a go and connect with a Love for the natural world.

Peace and Blessings

Tuning into Love - 002 'Lilypads of relaxation'

Tuning into Love through my home is something I do very often. Could it be every day? yes, possibly! maybe more than once a day. Too much tuning into Love is always helpful :)

Even if I've been dwelling in a place that may be experiencing some negative energy effects from either a Flying Stars influence, an environmental occurrence, or a sapping of it high quality Qi by unhelpful guests etc...I can still focus on something in my home that provides me with a connection to the emotion of Love, or the memory of Love, or the feeling of Love....you see where I'm going.

'The' blue chair is a true 'splat inducing' piece of furniture, and one we love a lot in our house!
One thing I particularly love is coming upon places that really ask us to stop, and relax, and 'shut down' our 'alert systems' a while. I try and make as many of these places as I can in my little home! This one above is a place I managed to establish a few months ago. From this chair I can see out my window to the bushland nearby, and I can watch the kids playing or talk to them while they are at the table and doing a little bit of work. Its sociable, but also what I call an energetic 'lilypad' within the house itself.

"I now tune into the Love of my special place to relax"

'ahhhh, can you feel the serenity?' :))

Tuning into your Loves - 001

Tuning into Love. Well, what could be nicer hey? What could be better for you, nourish your Life, your Spirit, and your Body too? Love is like a cool drink when you need it, like healing when its not expected, a hug from a best friend and a sweet smile that lights up your life. Love just so rocks doesn't it?

Over the next few months or more (who knows how long this may take?) I'll be tuning into my loves, and sharing them with you via photos (if I can), so I can show you how your Loves influence the quality of the Feng Shui in your Mind, Body, Spirit and Home. Everything is connected and this way of defining, accepting and acknowledging your Loves brings them closer to you and makes them resonate deeper into every part of your Life.

First UP! Oh which love to choose? The one that's around me everyday, that challenges me, brings me infinite rewards and definitely lights up my life...

Three funny little Beings that decided to be with me...
A good start :)
"I tune into the Love I feel when I look at my children"

What is a Love that you can see right now? Look around the room you're in and just see if there is something you can Love. Could be the view from your window. A particular chair you find SO comfortable. A cup of tea. A cushion. The way the carpet looks soft, or the floor feels underfoot. Maybe its something you're looking forward to and the thought is what you can Love now. Perhaps it can be a memory that you connect to with Love.

Buddha said that we make our world with our thoughts, and I see this reflected in my Life so often. Its true. So go ahead, get your thoughts tuned into your Loves, and resonate it loud!

(I'm hoping to get to a whole 108 Loves, which will mean I can send each one through a Nadi in my body and send Love light through each and every 108 channels!)

Making your Smoothie 'work' for you...

Mmmmm :) Being healthy never tasted so good :)

This morning I wake and make a 'green smoothie', and if you'd told me last year that I would be doing this kind of thing regularly I would have looked at you with amazement. My smoothie's really 'work' for me on several levels. Firstly, I'm lazy in the morning, I like simple, I don't want a heap of stuff to wash up and I want a gentle and effective 'kick start'....that's kind of 'first, second and third' really isn't it... :)

Green Smoothie's are made from what you have around that's fresh, and can blend up well.
Some people always begin with an Avocado, others always with a Banana, some only with fresh berries. I'm the kind of person who always begins with a walk outside to my herb garden to see what's going bonkers and needs thinning.
View from a Spinach Leaf ~ by Jannette

A couple of handfuls of herbs ripped up, added to a cup or so of Oatmilk, a dollop of raw honey, a spoonful of Chia Seeds, a shake of In-Liven, and blend for 10 seconds on high, 10 on low. Pour and shake some Cinnamon over the top, sip slowly.

YUM.

What's so good about these drinks? The best thing is that because the ingredients are all raw (well, except for the Oat Milk perhaps, but you can use Almond Milk or other nut milk if you want) their vitality is very high. What do I mean by 'vitality'? Its really their vibrational energy. All their molecules are 'linked', and the energy that they have used to grow is still intact.  Processed foods suffer from the loss of this vitality along each step or 'process' they go through. Even blending the raw smoothie removes some of this vitality, but in comparison to say a 'diet powder' that has its nutritional value written on a label on the side of the tub, this kind of drink has a stack more potency than a standard 'meal replacement shake'.

If you are trying to lose weight, or break an appetite 'habit' (eggs, toast, cereal etc) then this kind of smoothie is just fantastic for manifesting success.

Tips for making your Smoothie go further:
  • Add a spoonful of Spirulina Powder to help provide you with essential Proteins
  • Add a spoonful of Flaxseed Oil to help provide you with essential fatty acids (Omega 3's)
  • Add a spoonful of Chia Seeds to help provide you with a range of essential minerals and more
  • Add fresh seasonal berries for an antioxidant boost (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries etc)
  • Add Kiwi fruit, Mango, Kadadu Plum, Persimmon, or Rosehips to boost Vitamin C if you are feeling a little unwell or have an injury that is causing inflammation.
  • Add Probiotics like 'In-Liven' superfood powder, a half cup of Kefir or something similar like an organic and biodynamic yoghurt if you are suffering any form of fungal infection, yeast infection, gum problems, or digestive issues.
  • Add Raw Cacao for anyone who loves chocolate, or for women who have muscle aches from menstruation, or children who have 'growing pains' like aches in the thighs, ribs, ankles and wrists.
  • If you want to add more superfood 'oomph' try using a shake of Quinoa flakes, Amaranth flakes or puffed Millet, Kamut or similar. This is good for little people who are feeling poorly and need a little more food in their tummy but don't want to 'eat'. (NB: I would say here that using Cacao to camouflage any 'greenness' for kids not used to drinking green is a good ploy)

Smoothies are just so very convenient and nourishing that I find I prefer it as a start to the morning, and it has helped me to cut down on my processed grain intake a LOT. I find that I do not have cravings for foods that I used to. Sweet cravings are non-existent. So if you are a little hesitant about getting into raw smoothies, just give it a go, you'll be glad you did :)
